The Sunrise Charitable Fund, the charitable arm of the Sunrise Rotary Club of West Sedgwick County, contracted with the National Center for Boundless Playgrounds, Bloomfield, CT, a national non-profit to provide project oversight for a 27,000 sq. foot barrier-free playground. Steve Perry, Wichita Landscape Architect, McCluggage Van Sickle & Perry, designed the Sunrise Boundless Playscape which is located just east of Horseshoe Shelter in Sedgwick County Park.
The Sunrise Boundless Playscape is being made possible through the generosity of Children's Miracle Network and the Via Christi Health Foundation of Wichita, Kansas and the Sisters of St. Joseph.
The Sedgwick County Commission unanimously approved the donation of land within Sedgwick County Park (adjacent to the Sedgwick County Zoo) in June 2005. In addition to the land, the County will build new restroom facilities which are handicap accessible and provide more parking, including a larger number of handicap parking spaces.
Several businesses, foundations and organizations stepped forward, including McCluggage Van Sickle & Perry Architects, Ruggles & Bohm Engineering, Bever Dye Attorneys, Dugan & Dugan Law, George Lay Sign Co., The Print Source, Envision, Bombardier Learjet, Star Lumber Company, Cessna Aircraft Company, The Lattner Foundation; Via Christi Health Network Foundation; Children’s Miracle Network, Wichita Community Foundation, and the Wiedemann Foundation.. Promotional materials were designed by a group of students in WSU's Elliott School of Communications under the direction of Professor Les Anderson. |
